Setelah googling ke sana ke mari, ada beberapa pencerahan. Umumnya format file audio dengan kanal lebih dari 2 (stereo) diperuntukan bagi surround-sound. Untuk 6 kanal, umumnya surround 5.1. ‘Format’ 5.1 biasanya menggunakan standar DTS atau AC3. DTS dulu dikenal sebagai Digital Theater Systems, tapi sekarang cukup DTS saja sebagai produk dari DTS, Inc. AC3 (atau Dolby Digital – backronym : Audio Codec 3, Advanced Codec 3, Acoustic Coder 3) adalah format surround yang dimulai oleh Dolby Laboratories. Format ini dikenal juga sebagai Dolby Digital 5.1 atau ATSC A/52, bedanya AC3 memiliki kemampuan untuk memiliki sampel audio hingga 48KHz.

Surround 5.1 menggunakan konfigurasi kanal Left, Center, Right, Left Surround, Right Surround + LFE (Low Frequency Effect). Yang agak membingungkan adalah konfigurasi channel-mapping di dalam file audio-nya. Umumnya file audio menggunakan sistem interleaving untuk tiap kanal. Urutan ini memerlukan standar tertentu untuk memastikan bahwa kanal L memang keluar di sebelah kiri atau kanal RS keluar di kanan samping/belakang.

Hasil dari riset channel mapping di internet :

• Aac:  C – L – R – Ls – Rs – LFE
• Ac3:  L – C – R – LFE – Ls – Rs
• Wav: L – R – C – LFE – Ls – Rs
• DTS:  L – R – C – LFE – Ls- Rs

untuk encoding DTS, dibutuhkan software seperti surcode DVD DTS keluaran Minnetonka Audio Software, ataupun software/hardware yang berlisensi dari DTS, Inc. Untuk AC3 sepertinya lebih mudah karena banyak encoder yang beredar bebas bisa melakukannya (seperti  WaveWizard, BeSweet, ffmpeg, dll.)

Ternyata yang lebih memusingkan adalah, klien kami membutuhkan format yg spesifik, bukan DTS ataupun AC3. Akhirnya, cara termudah untuk membuat 6-channel wav dari 6 file wav mono adalah menggunakan Audacity. Fitur ini baru muncul di Audacity versi 1.3.12b (waktu post ini ditulis, masih beta). Untuk memanfaatkannya, user harus mengaktifkan Preferences > Import/Export > Use Custom Mix. Yang kami lakukan adalah :

• Buat proyek baru
• Import 6 file mono
• Export, pilih format wav (dalam hal kami, 24bit, 48KHz)
• Pada bagian akhir proses export, muncul window untuk melakukan channel-mapping. Atur mapping sesuai kebutuhan.

Yang perlu menjadi catatan adalah, format .wav memungkinkan untuk menyimpan lebih dari 2 kanal audio, bahkan ada yg pernah mencoba membuat wav dengan 64 kanal dan berhasil (for the sake of experiment). Tetapi, tidak dianjurkan untuk tetap memakai extension .wav karena umumnya media player mengharapkan file wav hanya memiliki 2 kanal dan tidak berhasil memainkan file tadi. Karena itu umumnya file wav dengan format AC3 menggunakan extension .ac3 dan dts menggunakan .dts atau .dtswav.

1 hal lain, seiring dengan pemakaian, sulit sekali mendapatkan PC system (Windows) yang benar2 identik dalam kemampuan memutar media. Hal ini disebabkan oleh banyaknya codec yang dimanfaatkan oleh content-creator dan pemasangannya pun kadang transparan dari pengguna. Jadi, bukan tidak mungkin sebuah file audio bisa diputar di PC tertentu dan gagal di PC yang lain. Salah satu yang mungkin bisa membantu (tidak 100%) adalah pemakaian aplikasi utility seperti G-Spot yg dapat mengenali codec yang dipakai dalam file tertentu dan juga menampilkan daftar codec yg tersedia di PC tersebut.

1. Up
In short … a movie too beautiful to be missed … Udah liat kesekian kali, mo versi 3D, dvd rip, HD, tetep ajah terharu ..  film animasi ini worth an academy award … semoga …

Film tentang Carl (Edward Asner) yang ingin memenuhi janjinya pada mendiang istrinya, Ellie,  untuk berpetualang ke Paradise Falls. Dalam petualangannya ia ditemani Russel si pramuka (Jordan Nagai) dan bertemu dengan Dug (Bob Peterson) si anjing lugu, Charles Muntz (Christopher Plummer) sang adventurer yang mengilhami Carl dan Ellie. Dalam pemanfaatan 3d stereo-nya, Up tidak terbawa dengan klise-klise seperti melempar barang ke kamera, dll. Up memanfaatkannya untuk menambah kedalaman dalam visual-nya.

Up di-komandani oleh Pete Docter yg juga memandu Monsters.Inc.

2. District 9
Film unik ini memakai premis ‘Manusia umumnya takut pada yg berbeda’ yang memulai politik segregasi atau apartheid. Mungkin karena si sutradara (Neill Blomkamp) berasal dari Afrika Selatan sehingga ia akrab dengan kondisi itu dulu. Coba gantikan para alien dengan kulit hitam dan manusia sebagai kulit putih, maka film ini akan menjadi film-film yang umum bercerita tentang perbedaan ras. Keunikannya ditambah dengan penggunaan teknik film dokumenter, sehingga kita lebih merasa menonton berita di TV. Pemain-pemainnya-pun asli dari Afrika Selatan. Sepertinya nama yang paling menonjol di sini hanyalah Peter Jackson sebagai produser.

Alkisah datanglah sebuah pesawat luar angkasa ke bumi dan hovering di atas Jo-burg. Pesawat itu membawa pelarian dari planet mereka. Di bumi, mereka ditempatkan di sebuah daerah yg dinamakan distrik 9. Di sanalah digambarkan betapa manusia bisa sangat semena-mena menindas, mengambil keuntungan, dan kebrutalan lainnya.

3. G.I. Joe : The Rise of the Cobra

Sebuah film laga yang ringan dan menghibur. Tidak usah repot2 mikir di sini, ngga usah bertanya-tanya, enjoy sajah ….

Film yang diangkat dari komik, lalu seri animasi dan permainan yang sangat digemari anak2 (dulu). Seperti biasa, film intro akan menghabiskan waktu cukup banyak untuk cerita latar belakang, apalagi bila tokohnya banyak. Aku nonton ini bener2 hanya untuk memuaskan kebutuhan visual sajah. VFX yang bagus, cast-nya (yang wanita tentunya) OK juga.

Duke (Channing Tatum) dan Ripcord (Marlon Wayans) berusaha untuk bergabung dengan G.I. Joe setelah misi pengawalan mereka berantakan di tengah jalan. Bersama Scarlett (Rachel Nichols), Heavy Duty (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Snake Eyes (Ray Park), Gen. Hawk (Dennis Quaid) melawan McCullen/Destro (Christopher Eccleston), Storm Shadow (Byung-hun Lee), Baroness (Sienna Miller), Zartan (Arnold Vosloo), dll.

4. G-Force

Ini benar2 film untuk anak2. Cerita dan aksi nya seru (untuk anak), karakternya lucu (untuk anak), dan seterus-nya …

lalu ? … Sebenarnya banyak bintang di film ini, tapi seperti tidak menonjol. BIntang2 itu a.l. Bill Nighy, Sam Rockwell, Jon Favreau, Nicolas Cage, Penélope Cruz. Yang mencuri perhatian malahan karakter Bucky yg di vokal-kan oleh Steve Buscemi, sayang dia hanya memiliki screen-time yg pendek.

Buat hiburan okelah … VFX nya bagus juga. Karakter2-nya cukup blend dengan BG-plates-nya.

5. 9

Film yang berangkat dari short animation sepanjang 11 menit buatan Shane Acker. Short itu menarik perhatian Tim Burton yang kemudian menjadi produser film panjangnya bersama Timur Bekmambetov. Tim mungkin tertarik dengan film ini karena memang ceritanya banyak kemiripan gaya dengannya. Film ini sebenarnya bukan untuk anak2, temanya berat dan suram. Sungguh berlawanan dengan G-Force.

Ceritanya tentang ‘boneka’ dengan nomor 9 dipunggungnya. #9 (Elijah Wood) memiliki keingin-tahuan yang besar dan dia bertualang (sejak dia bangun) untuk mencari jati-diri-nya. Dalam perjalanannya ia bertemu dengan sesama adventurer #2 (Martin Landau), temannya #5 (John C. Reilly), kemudian si pemimpin #1 (Christopher Plummer), dengan penjaganya #8 (Fred Tatasciore), dan si gila #6 (Crispin Glover), dibantu si pendekar #7 (Jennifer Connelly) dan si kembar #3 dan #4.

Overall … okelah … untuk hiburan tengah tahun.

Udah berapa lama dipusingin oleh win2k3 server yang selalu bikin session baru atau lain bila tersambung. Masalahnya, di server itu jalan aplikasi yang sering harus di restart, busuknya lagi … itu aplikasi hanya nongol di session/ID 0 sajah. Jadi sering harus bolak-balik ke kulkas (ruang server) hanya untuk maintenance itu aplikasi. Tapi masih oke lah karena itung2 olah-raga ..

Masalah besar muncul waktu liburan seperti ini, tim IT ternyata kabur semuwa … nah yang masih kerja teriak-teriak karena itu aplikasi minta restart. Waks …

Ngobrol bentar dengan temen yg bernama google … nemu calon-solusi .. katanya waktu jalankan RDP (mstsc.exe) pergunakan switch /console untuk akses session/ID 0. Coba-coba berapa kali .. lho kok masih dapet ID lain ?? panggil lagi si gugel, interogasi lagi. Usut punya usut, switch /console sudah tidak ada lagi sejak XP SP3 karena pertimbangan sekuriti. Itu laman yg mengusulkan, setelah dibaca lagi tertanggal tahun 2003 .. Alamak !

Akhirnya ketemu juga switch-nya untuk RDP versi terakhir .. seluruh switch bisa di cek dengan menjalankan “mstsc.exe /?” di command prompt. Untuk akses ID 0, perlu menggunakan switch /admin …. untuk lengkapnya “mstsc.exe /admin /v:[servername]“

Sudah di tes, dan sudah berhasil .. hore … (joged2) …

Satu lagi dari Dreamworks Animation.

DA memang mencoba untuk sangat produktif menghasilkan film2 animasi dan nampaknya mereka cukup berhasil dengan usahanya. Apakah hasilnya menjadi blockbuster ? Itu lain lagi.

Seperti biasa film animasi ini menggunakan nama2 terkenal untuk pengisi suaranya. Reese Witherspoon (Ginormica), Seth Rogen (B.O.B), Hugh Laurie (Dr. Cockroach Ph.D), Kiefer Sutherland (Gen. W.R. Monger), Rainn Wilson (Gallaxhar), dan masih banyak lagi.

Film ini banyak membuat tribute untuk film2 genre monster di waktu lampau seperti, Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman (1958), The Blob (1958), Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), The Fly (1986), Mosura/Mothra (1961). Selain itu banyak sekali gag yang berasal dari film2 lain.

Ceritanya sendiri sebenarnya biasa-biasa saja. Masih memanfaatkan resep-resep standar Holywood seperti : Jangan menilai seseorang dari segi fisik saja; Persahabatan; dll. Apa boleh buat ? yang penting penonton suka, anak2 suka, bisnis pun lancar. Walaupun begitu, film ini masih menghibur dan tidak perlu terlalu berpikir … enjoy saja ..

Tokoh favoritku di sini adalah B.O.B yang disuarakan oleh siapa lagi kalau bukan Seth Rogen (yang juga mengisi suara di Kungfu Panda).

Sebagai karya Dreamworks Animation pastilah sarat dengan teknologi2 baru yang sayangnya tidak terlalu kentara di visualnya. Untuk rambut, aku lebih suka rambut Susan daripada Ginormica yang terlalu halus seperti iklan shampoo.

Karena aku nonton ini di Jakarta, aku berkesempatan untuk melihat versi Tru3D-nya. Memang 3d stereoscopy mulai mewabah lagi, dengan teknologi baru tentunya. Yang jelas, ini pertama kalinya aku bisa nonton 3D dengan nyaman. Umumnya pengguna kaca-mata akan kesulitan menonton film 3D karena sulit menggunakan kaca-mata dobel. Selain itu, kaca-mata 3D yang sering beredar adalah versi produksi massal yang memang untuk sekali-pakai-lalu-buang. Kaca-mata anaglyph yang disediakan oleh pihak bioskop adalah kaca-mata yang bagus dan tidak mengganggu warna di layar karena warnanya yang tidak benar2 biru/merah. Memang masih lebih baik bila memakai kaca-mata 3D yang polarizer, karena bening dan sama sekali tidak mengganggu warna. Tetapi, biasanya, polarizer memerlukan proyektor khusus dan layar yg khusus juga (Denger2 Blitz menggunakannya).

Nonton lagi ? tentu … apalagi kalo tru3D …
